What the military pay increase means to you

There is a 3.9% increase in pay coming to all reserve and active duty personnel.  The increase is due to be on the distribution of the January 15, 2009 pay.  The pay scale will still be determined by rank and number of years served in the military.  This is the outline for pay expected for active duty personnel (enlisted)

E1:  Pay for service over 4 months will be $1400.

E2:  Pay will be $1568

E3:  Pay will range from $1650 to $1860 depending on years served.

E4:  Pay will be from $1827 to $2217

E5:  Pay will be from $1993 to $2498

E6:  Pay will be from $2176 to $2709

E7:  Pay will be from $2515 to $3098

The 3.9% increase is a half percent more than President Bush had asked for in his initial proposal made last February.  The 3.5% increase that had been proposed was balked at by military groups and supporters.  The amount that was signed into law, 3.9% was done despite an overall cut of the defense budget by over 4 million dollars by Senate. Senate agreed with veterans and military personnel that more than the proposed amount was needed.
