Did you grow up speaking a language other than
English? Have you always been interested in speaking a foreign language? Does
traveling with a battalion while you interpret enemy plans and question
prisoners of war sound appealing to you? If so, consider a career in the Military.
Your
Translation Depends on It
When you join the Military, you’ll enter basic
training where you’ll learn what it takes to be a soldier. You’ll then begin
advanced training where you’ll receive 6 to 12 months of training in the language
of choice. During training, you’ll also learn questioning techniques, how to
prepare reports and how to use state-of-the-art communication equipment. Upon
completion of your advanced training, you’ll enter the Military and begin
interpreting right away. You’ll climb aboard a submarine or airplane as you
interpret enemy and allied plans, question prisoners of war or record and
translate foreign radio transmissions.  Â
