| Job Description |
An essential member in the Army's battlefield success, the cannon crewmember work on cannons known as "howitzers," a heavy artillery machine. Although the cannon crew member works on an artillery team to support units in combat, the specialist also has responsibilities during peacetime. Duties include
• Establishing and maintaining communication outlets
• Identifying targets
• Operating howitzers and related vehicles
Training
To become an Army cannon crew member, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of soldiering skills, and 14 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
• Techniques for calculating targets
• Procedures for handling ammunition
• Operation of gun, missile and rocket systems
• Tactics for artillery and battle strategies
