| Job Description |
An Army band member is on the music team performing at many of the Army's ceremonies, parades, concerts and other events. The Army band may be called upon to play many styles from jazz to chamber music. The Army band member knows how to play one or more of the following:
• Tuba
• Trombone
• Euphonium
• Bassoon,
• Electric bass guitar
• Saxophone
• Flute or piccolo
• Oboe
• Clarinet
• French horn
• Percussion
• Cornet or trumpet
• Guitar
• Keyboard
Training
To become an Army band member, you must pass one or more auditions and complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and up to 24 weeks of advanced individual training at the Armed Forces School of Music. Length of training varies according to each person's proficiency. Classroom work covers:
• Instrumental instruction
• Music theory
• Sight singing and ear training
• Group instrumental techniques
• Percussion techniques

• Be musically accomplished with an instrument
• Understand music theory and harmony
• Perform with poise
• Play more than one instrument |
