Job Description
The Navy store officer plays an integral role in maintaining Navy efficiency. This officer directs the operations and personnel of military exchange stores and food and merchandise outlets. Specialties include:

- Commissary store officer

- Exchange officer

- Ship store officer



Training

To become an officer in the Navy, you must be a current student or graduate of a four-year college or university. You must also complete an extensive training officer course, which may vary in length depending upon your specialty. There are four main pathways to becoming a commissioned officer:

- U.S. Naval Academy

- Officer Candidate School and Officer Training School

- Reserve Officers' Training Corps

- Direct appointments

An indirect path is through the Enlisted Commissioning Programs.



Helpful skills

The ideal candidate for a Navy store officer should:

- Be a U.S. citizen and at least 19 years old

- Have a four-year college degree

- Show self-discipline, initiative, confidence and intelligence

- Be physically fit

- Be able to handle stressful situations and make decisions swiftly
