| Job Description |
The Marine tank officer is an integral member in ensuring success in battle. This officer commands the tank crew and drives the tank in combat. Additional duties include operating the weapons system and supporting ground infantry. The type of tanks include:
- MIIA2, Abrams Tank
- M 1/M 1 A Abrams Tank
- M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle
- M3 Calvary Fighting Vehicle
- M60 AII-A3 and M48 Series Tank
- M551 Armor Reconnaissance Vehicle
Training
To become an officer in the Marines, you must be a current student or graduate of a four-year college or university. You must also complete an extensive training officer course, which may vary in length depending upon your specialty. There are four main pathways to becoming a commissioned officer:
- U.S. Naval Academy
- Officer Candidate School and Officer Training School
- Reserve Officers' Training Corps
- Direct appointments
An indirect path is through the Enlisted Commissioning Programs.

- Be a U.S. citizen and at least 19 years old
- Have a four-year college degree
