| Job Description |
An officer in the Marine military police helps maintain order within the ranks as well as protect the safety of all personnel. This officer is primarily responsible for directing and supervising the military police. Additional duties include overseeing physical security, criminal investigations and correction activities.
Training
To become an officer in the Marines, you must be a current student or graduate of a four-year college or university. You must also complete an extensive training officer course, which may vary in length depending upon your specialty. There are four main pathways to becoming a commissioned officer:
- U.S. Naval Academy
- Officer Candidate School and Officer Training School
- Reserve Officers' Training Corps
- Direct appointments
An indirect path is through the Enlisted Commissioning Programs.

The ideal candidate for a Marine military police officer should:
- Be a U.S. citizen and at least 19 years old
- Have a four-year degree
- Show self-discipline, initiative, confidence and intelligence
- Be physically fit
- Be able to handle stressful situations and make decisions swiftly
