| Job Description |
The Air Force explosive ordnance disposal apprentice plays an important role in ensuring the safety of both Air Force personnel and civilians. This specialist is primarily responsible for lessening or removing the hazards posed by unexploded ordnance. Duties include:
- Detecting, identifying, recovering and disposing of U.S. and foreign explosives and ordnance that are unsafe
- Maintaining equipment and vehicles
- Preparing necessary files and data
Training
Nearly every Air Force enlisted soldier undergoes six weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Air Force activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization. Training for the Air Force explosive ordnance disposal apprentice includes:
- Techniques for handling explosives
- Maintenance procedures
- Air Force procedures for completing related records
