Job Description
The Air Force acquisition officer is an integral member in ensuring Air Force efficiency. This officer is primarily responsible for managing defense acquisition programs. Duties include:
- Integrating engineering, program control, test and deployment, configuration management, production and manufacturing, quality assurance and logistics support
- Supervising and managing acquisition programs
- Advising on status and progress of acquisition programs

Training
To become an officer in the Air Force, you must be a current student or graduate of a four-year college or university. You must also complete an extensive training officer course, which may vary in length depending upon your specialty. There are four main pathways to becoming a commissioned officer:
- U.S. Air Force Academy
- Officer Candidate School and Officer Training School
- Reserve Officers' Training Corps
- Direct appointments
An indirect path is through the Enlisted Commissioning Programs.

The ideal candidate for an Air Force acquisition officer should:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a four-year degree or diploma from an accredited program
- Show self-discipline, initiative, confidence and intelligence
- Be physically fit
