| Job Description |
The Air Force airborne cryptologic apprentice is an integral member of the aircraft crew. This specialist is primarily responsible for operating airborne signals intelligence systems and mission equipment. Duties include:
- Translating, evaluating and reporting on communications
- Using radio receivers and related equipment
- Relaying encoded and decoded information
- Recording special interest information
- Maintaining the status of mission aircraft, targets and air tasking order information
Training
Nearly every Air Force enlisted soldier undergoes six weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Air Force activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization.

- Be interested in mechanics, electronics and radios
- Be able to use the necessary tools
- Have some computer skills
