| Job Description |
The Coast Guard electrician's mate is an integral member providing support to the infrastructure of the Coast Guard. This specialist is primarily responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing and managing electrical and electronic equipment. The list includes:
- Electrical power generation, distribution, control and monitoring equipment
- Motors
- Process and programmable logic controls
- Plant control equipment
- Interior communication systems
Training
Nearly every Coast Guard enlisted soldier undergoes eight weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Coast Guard activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization. To become a Coast Guard electrician's mate, you must either undergo training at the EM school.
