| Job Description |
The Coast Guard electronics technician plays an important role in ensuring success in battle and peacetime operations. This specialist is primarily responsible for installing, maintaining and managing Command, Control and Communications systems, tactical electronic warfare systems, navigation systems and general electronics systems. Duties also include work on computers.
Training
Nearly every Coast Guard enlisted soldier undergoes eight weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Coast Guard activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization. To become a Coast Guard electronics technician, you must either undergo an additional 28 weeks of training at the basic electronics school.
