The Coast Guard food service specialist plays a key role in maintaining the well-being of personnel. This specialist is primarily responsible for food preparation and managing the food supply chain. Duties include:
- Understanding the proper use of tools and instructing others on the use
- Converting recipes
- Baking and cooking
- Purchasing supplies
- Storing items properly
- Managing dining facilities
Training
Nearly every Coast Guard enlisted soldier undergoes eight weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Coast Guard activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization. To become a Coast Guard food service specialist, you must either undergo an additional 12 weeks of training at an onshore facility or on the job.
