| Job Description |
The Coast Guard aviation survival technician functions operationally as a helicopter rescue swimmer and emergency medical technician. This specialist may be deployed into a variety of rescue situations, such as evacuations from ships at sea or stranded sailboats. Duties may also include ground handling and servicing of aircraft and rescue tools and systems. The technician may also be called upon to provide aircrew survival training to aviators.
Training
Nearly every Coast Guard enlisted soldier undergoes eight weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Coast Guard activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization. To become a Coast Guard aviation survival technician, you must undergo an additional 19 weeks of training.
