Job Description
The Coast Guard aviation maintenance technician receives intensive training to keep the organization's aircraft in top condition. This specialist is primarily responsible for inspecting, maintaining and servicing aircraft engines, auxiliary power units, propellers, rotor systems, powertrain systems and associated airframe and systems-specific electrical components. The technician may also fill aircrew positions, such as flight engineer or aviation gunner.

Training
Nearly every Coast Guard enlisted soldier undergoes eight weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Coast Guard activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization. To become a Coast Guard aviation maintenance technician, you must undergo an additional five months of training.
