| Job Description |
At the core of the National Guard telecommunications center is the telecommunications operator/maintainer. Duties include:
- Working with automated message switches, computer terminals, processors and other communication security devices
- Performing Battlefield Information Services such as printing, publication management, and reproduction within the information service support office.
- Installing, configuring and monitoring networks, hardware and software
- Handling preventive maintenance on related equipment, vehicles and generators
These responsibilities are tied to effective communications necessary for successful National Guard operations.
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
