| Job Description |
An essential member in the National Guard's battlefield success, the cannon crewmember works on cannons known as "howitzers," a heavy artillery machine. Although the National Guard cannon crew member works on an artillery team to support units in combat, the specialist also has responsibilities during peacetime. Duties include
Establishing and maintaining communication outlets
Identifying targets
Operating howitzers and related vehicles
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a members civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
