| Job Description |
The National Guard's field artillery team relies heavily on the performance of the fire support specialist. This soldier helps in leading, supervising or serving in target processing, division artillery, maneuver brigade and other functions. Duties include:
Establishing and operating communications systems
Encoding and decoding messages
Assisting in fire support plans and the operation of laser range finders, target designations and night observation devices
Locating target
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a members civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
