| Job Description |
An integral member in helping to ensure battlefield success is the National Guard field artillery meteorological crewmember. This specialist is primarily responsible for monitoring weather conditions for field artillery units to fire missiles accurately. Duties include
- Operating meteorological gear and electrical generators
- Assembling and adjusting transmitters
- Obtaining the necessary meteorological measurements
- Preparing meteorological balloons for launch
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
