Job Description
The National Guard explosive ordnance disposal specialist is an integral member in ensuring the safety of both National Guard personnel and civilians. This specialist is responsible for locating, identifying, and disposing explosive devices. Duties include:
- Researching and identifying explosive devices
- Identifying chemical agents
- Maintaining disposal tools, equipment and vehicles
- Assisting in the operation of Emergency Contamination Control States and Emergency - - Personnel Decontamination Stations
- Assisting in locating buried ordnance
- Defusing unexploded bombs
- Locating and disposing of chemical munitions

Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
