| Job Description |
Whether on the battlefield or at home base, National Guard chaplains attend to the spiritual needs of all National Guard personnel regardless of denomination. A National Guard chaplain assistant provides similar support, primarily in work for the Unit Ministry Team programs and worship services. Some of your duties as a chaplain assistant may include:
• Conducting Unit Ministry Team activities
• Ensuring physical security of the team’s facilities and equipment
• Maintaining the sanctity of privileged communications
• Coordinating religious retreats and ceremonies
• Assisting in the team’s readiness program and other activities supporting the chaplain
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.

• Have an aptitude for organization and accuracy
• Prefer office work, particularly those involving the clergy
• Have an interest in operating office equipment, such as typewriters and computers
