| Job Description |
The National Guard topographic surveyor is primarily responsible for supervising and conducting topographical surveys in support of the artillery. This specialist is integral to building and repairing airstrips, docks, barracks and roads. Duties include:
Operating surveying equipment
Recording data relating to topography
Constructing survey towers or stands
Transporting and operating related equipment
Making scale drawings and scale models
Using aerial photographs to form large photomaps
Drawing diagrams for wiring and plumbing
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a members civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
