Job Description
An integral member in ensuring the sanitation and safety of all National Guard personnel is the National Guard water treatment specialist. Primary responsibility is to inspect facilities and food supplies for disease, germs or other hazardous conditions. Duties include:

• Assisting in water reconnaissance and setup of water treatment

• Maintaining and operating water treatment equipment

• Obtaining and disbursing potable water

• Analyzing water and food quality

• Investigating living quarters and facilities to determine health and safety standards

• Training on hygiene and health issues

• Monitoring noise and radiation levels



Training

National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
