Job Description
The National Guard technical engineer is essential in building airstrips, docks, barracks, roads and other projects. This specialist conducts land surveys, makes maps and prepares detailed plans and drawings for construction projects. Duties include:
• Surveying the land and computing the results
• Drawing maps and charts
• Testing construction materials
• Drafting diagrams for wiring and plumbing
• Building scale models
• Working with aerial photographs to form large photomaps

Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.

• Be able to convert ideas into drawings
• Be interested in maps, charts and drafting equipment
