| Job Description |
The National Guard concrete and asphalt equipment operator uses bulldozers, cranes and other heavy equipment to complete the assigned work. This specialist moves tons of earth and building materials in the construction of airfields, roads, dams and buildings and operates all the equipment used in concrete and asphalt production and paving. Duties include:
• Using a concrete mobile mixer to produce concrete
• Helping in the building and operation of an asphalt plant
• Using heavy equipment
• Assisting combat engineers
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
