| Job Description |
Integral to hundreds of construction projects is the National Guard heavy construction equipment operator. This specialist uses such heavy equipment as bulldozers, cranes and graders to complete the National Guard airfields, roads, dams and buildings. Duties include:
Working with information on grading
Operating the heavy equipment to cut and level earth
Excavating, backfilling, and related tasks
Assisting combat engineers
Lifting and moving heavy building materials using cranes, winches and hoists
Using power shovels to dig holes and trenches
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a members civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
