| Job Description |
Many construction projects rely on the skills of the National Guard carpentry and masonry specialist. This soldier performs heavy carpentry, structural steel and masonry tasks. Duties include:
Making and maintaining rigging devices, trusses and other structures
Assisting in building layout, framing, sheathing, fabrication and roofing structures
Performing basic carpentry and masonry tasks
Repairing and constructing structures
Helping combat engineers
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a members civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
