| Job Description |
Assisting in the proper medical care of all Army personnel is the Army health care specialist. This specialist assists in emergency medical treatments, primary care and health protection. Duties include:
· Treating injuries in battlefield operations
· Helping with inpatient and outpatient care
· Interviewing patients and recording their vital signs
· Maintaining health records
· Preparing patients and sites for surgeries
Training
To become an Army health care specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and seven to 12 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
Techniques on patient care and emergency situations
· Methods for sterilizing tools
· Master-casting techniques
Helpful skills
An ideal candidate for an Army health care specialist should:
· Be interested in chemistry, biology, psychology, general science and algebra
· Enjoy helping others
· Communicate effectively
· Remain calm under stressful situations
· Be detail-oriented
