Job Description
Assisting in the proper medical care of all Army personnel is the Army hospital food specialist. This specialist assists in supervision of medical nutrition care operations. Duties include:

· Following nutritional requirements in the preparation of food

· Ordering and inspecting food products

· Preparing standard cuts of meat using cleavers, knives and bandsaws

· Cooking and baking

· Serving food in dining halls, hospitals or field kitchens



Training

To become an Army hospital food service specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and nine to 14 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:

· Planning and preparation standard and dietetic entries

· Preparation and cooking of food and bakery products

· Procedures for ordering food and supplies

· Methods for food storage

An ideal candidate for an Army hospital food service specialist should:

· Be interested in cooking, health, mathematics, accounting and chemistry

· Enjoy manual tasks
