| Job Description |
Assisting in the proper medical care of all Army personnel is the Army medical supply specialist. This specialist assists in maintaining and distributing the supply of medicines, spare parts and other items needed by the medical corps. Duties include:
· Keeping an accurate inventory and related records
· Performing such warehousing duties as ordering, receiving and storing supplies
· Finding and cataloging supplies
· Maintaining quality control
· Selecting correct stock for issue
· Using forklifts and related equipment to handle and move stock
Training
To become an Army medical supply specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and four to six weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
· Procedures on accounting and inventory control
· Requirements on handling medical and food supplies
· Procedures related to shipping and handling
Helpful skills
An ideal candidate for an Army medical supply specialist should:
· Be interested in math, bookkeeping, accounting and related tasks in business administration
· Understand the need for accurate records
· Prefer physical work
· Be interested in operating warehouse equipment
In time, you may achieve an advanced level of an Army medical supply specialist with supervisory and training responsibilities. |
