| Job Description |
Assisting in the proper medical care of all Army personnel is the Army mental health specialist. This specialist assists in the management and treatment of soldiers on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Duties include:
· Gathering and organizing medical records
· Counseling and treating patients with certain mental health problems
· Assisting with the treatment of psychiatric patients and those with problems related to drug and alcohol abuse
· Dispensing medicines under the care of physicians
Training
To become an Army mental health specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 19 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers techniques in patient care and emergency medical concerns.
