| Job Description |
The Army mortuary affairs specialist must help in the recovery, collection, evacuation and establishment of tentative identification of deceased personnel. Specialists are also team members at the U.S. Army's Central Identification Laboratory in Hawaii. Duties for this specialist include:
· Searching and recovering for deceased personnel and matching their personal effects
· Sending remains and personal effects to collection sites
· Maintaining related records
· Recording fingerprint impressions and preparing dental/anatomical charts
Training
To become an Army mortuary affairs specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and six weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
· Procedures in recovery
· Office management related to mortuary affairs
