Job Description
Assisting in the proper medical care of all Army personnel is the Army operating room specialist. This specialist steps in to provide basic medical care when Army physicians aren't available and is of vital assistance in the operating room. Duties include:
· Preparing surgical tools for operations
· Assisting medical staff before and during operations
· Keeping operating rooms clean
· Examining and treating patients in emergencies
· Interviewing patients and recording their vital signs

Training
To become an Army operating room specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 19 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
· Procedures in emergency medical care and basic nursing
· Study of the human body
· Methods relating to surgery
· Requirements in maintaining a clinical laboratory
· Diagnosis of diseases

· Enjoy caring for others
· Communicate effectively
· Remain calm in stressful situations
· Be interested in chemistry, biology, psychology, general science and algebra
· Understand the need for accuracy and attention to detail
