| Job Description |
Assisting in the proper medical care of all Army personnel is the Army optical laboratory specialist. An essential member of the Army's optical care team, this specialist is primarily responsible for assembling prescribed eyeglasses. Duties include:
· Preparing and assembling prescription lenses
· Repairing and making eyeglasses
· Supervising optical laboratory personnel
Training
To become an Army optical laboratory specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 24 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers techniques in making and repairing optical lenses and eyeglasses.
