| Job Description |
Assisting in the proper medical care of all Army personnel is the Army preventive medicine specialist. This specialist conducts or assists with preventive medicine inspections, surveys and laboratory procedures. Duties include:
· Conducting inspections related to studying and preventing the spread of disease
· Organizing programs related to the surveillance of preventive medicine
· Analyzing collected information related to preventive medicine
· Developing community programs on health education
· Assisting in laboratory procedures
Training
In order to become an Army preventive medicine specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 15 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
· Procedures for sanitation inspections
· Information on parasites and diseases
· Analysis of potable water
