Assisting in the overall health care of all Army personnel and their families is the Army medical service corps officer. This specialist is primarily responsible for the Army's medical research. Specialties for a medical service corps officer include:
· Behavioral science
· Health administration services
· Laboratory services
· Optometry
· Pharmacy
· Podiatry
· Preventive medicine sciences
Training
To become an Army medical service corps officer, you must be a degreed professional in your area of specialty. You must also complete an officer basic leadership course, which is a basic orientation course to the Army Health Care system, Army doctrine, and basic soldier and leader skills. Training lasts between 10 and 14 weeks, depending on your specialty.
