Assisting in the overall health care of all Army personnel and their families is the Army nurse corps officer. This specialist works within a holistic nursing atmosphere and helps patients and their families with inpatient, outpatient and home care. Specialties for a nurse corps officer include:
· Critical care
· Operating room
· OB/GYN
· Psychiatric/mental health
· Public health
· Emergency room
Training
An Army nurse corps officer must have an associates degree in nursing or a three-year nursing diploma or a bachelor of science in nursing for the Army Reserve, or a bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. You must also complete an officer basic leadership course, which is a basic orientation course to the Army Health Care system, Army doctrine, and basic soldier and leader skills. Training lasts between 10 and 14 weeks, depending on your specialty.
