Job Description
The difference between success and failure on the battlefield may depend on the Army tactical automated fire control system specialist. This specialist is primarily responsiblee for recording and transmitting firing data. Duties include:
- Determining target locations using computers or manual calculations
- Establishing and operating radio, wire and team related equipment
- Setting up and loading artillery weapons
- Preparing ammunition, fuses and powder for firing
- Assisting in the preparation of a computer center for operation and shutdown
- Preparing TAFCS equipment for operation

Training
To become an Army tactical automated fire control system specialist, you may complete 9 weeks of basic training and three weeks and two days of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field training covers:
- Computation of target locations
- Techniques for handling and loading ammunition
- Operations related to gun, missile and rocket system
