| Job Description |
The difference between success and failure on the battlefield may depend on the National Guard tactical automated fire control system specialist. This specialist is primarily responsible for recording and transmitting firing data. Duties include:
- Determining target locations using computers or manual calculations
- Establishing and operating radio, wire and team related equipment
- Setting up and loading artillery weapons
- Preparing ammunition, fuses and powder for firing
- Assisting in the preparation of a computer center for operation and shutdown
- Preparing TAFCS equipment for operation
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
