| Job Description |
The National Guard aviation operations specialist plays an important role in keeping the National Guard's aircraft schedule effective and efficient. This specialist prepares and provides flight information for air and ground crews. Duties include:
· Obtaining flight clearances and coordinating flight plans
· Planning flight schedules and air crew assignments
· Logging flight information
· Alerting crash crews of emergencies
· Interpreting and posting weather reports
· Maintaining related records and files
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
