| Job Description |
National Guard success in battle and peacetime operations depends heavily on the efficiency of the National Guard common ground station operator. This specialist is primarily responsible for supervising or participating in detecting, locating and tracking ground targets, ships, missiles and aircraft. Duties include:
· Plotting and recording data
· Setting up and operating radar equipment
· Monitoring early warning systems
· Using radios and electronic communication systems to send and receive messages
· Analyzing radar imagery data
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
