Job Description
The National Guard armor crewman plays an important role in ensuring success on the battlefield. This specialist maintains and operates armored equipment and fire weapons, such as the M1A2 Abrams tank. Duties include:



· Assisting in target detection and identification

· Loading and firing guns

· Operating two-way radios and signaling equipment to receive and relay battle orders

· Placing turrets in operations

· Operating main gun controls and firing controls and tracked and wheeled vehicles

· Securing battle positions

· Operating internal communications equipment

· Reading maps, compasses and battle plans



Training

National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.

· Be able to work in a confined area for long periods

· Enjoy working on a team

· Be willing to stay in top physical condition
