| Job Description |
The Army air traffic control operator is an integral member of the team ensuring personnel safety and the safe and effective flow of aircraft. This specialist is primarily responsible for tracking planes and giving instructions for landing and take-off. Duties include:
· Tracking flights by using visual and electronic aids
· Assisting in the installation and relocation of tactical air traffic control facilities
· Recording and transmitting flight plan data
· Maintaining related logs and records
Training
To become an Army air traffic control operator, you must complete nine weeks of Basic Training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 14 weeks of advanced individual raining. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
· Operation and management procedures for air traffic control
· Procedures for communications and radar tracking
· Recognition of aircraft
· Procedures for take-off, landing and ground control

· Understand the need for accuracy and attention to detail
· Have a four-year college degree and certification by the Federal Aviation Administration
· Be able to remain calm during stressful situations
