| Job Description |
The Army construction equipment repairer helps ensure success on the battlefield and peacetime operations by keeping automotive and heavy equipment functional. This specialist is primarily responsible for maintaining and repairing trucks, bulldozers, power shovels and other construction equipment. Duties include:
· Adjusting engine speed governor/valves, carburetors, dry-disc clutches, steering brakes and fuel injector racks
· Maintaining and replacing brake actuators, batteries, starter motors, alternators, mechanical fuel pumps and hydraulic cylinders
· Charging suspension accumulators, transmission shift accumulators and main hydraulic accumulators
· Troubleshooting problems
· Tuning and repairing engines
· Replacing or repairing damaged items on equipment
Training
To become an Army construction equipment repairer, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and eight to 29 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
· Engine repair and tune-up
· Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems
· Repairing and replacing body panels, fenders and radiators
