| Job Description |
Helping to keep the National Guard in top fighting condition is the National Guard ammunition specialist. This solider is primarily responsible for receiving, storing and issuing conventional ammunition, guided missiles, large rockets and other ammunition related items. Duties include:
- Performing maintenance modification, destruction and demilitarization on ammunition and explosive components
- Operating computer hardware and software/utilities manual records in order to perform stock control and accounting procedures
- Performing ammunition supply stock control and accounting duties using both automated and manual procedures
- Loading explosives and ammunition on aircraft Inspecting weapon systems to determine need for repair or destruction
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
