| Job Description |
The National Guard air traffic control equipment repairer plays an important role in ensuring aircraft safety. This specialist is primarily responsible for the maintaining and installing air traffic control communications, navigation aids and landing systems. Duties include:
- Using electronic and electrical equipment to test instruments, navigational controls and simulators
- Replacing equipment parts such as resistors, switches and circuit boards
- Performing quality control measures
- Installing, adjusting and maintaining air traffic control communications and navigation aids systems
Training
National Guard training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member’s civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer.
