| Job Description |
Effective planning in keeping the National Guard mobile relies heavily on the National Guard transportation management coordinator. This specialist is primarily responsible for convoys, bills of lading, scheduling and securing modes of transportation of personnel and equipment. Duties include:
• Advising military and Department of Defense civilians of their entitlement for shipment of personal property and passenger travel
• Requesting and coordinating transport capability to meet missions
• Marking and labeling cargo and freight shipments in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Documenting and inventorying freight, cargo and material shipments of all types
Training
To become a National Guard transportation management coordinator, you must nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and seven weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
• Guidelines on efficient modes of transportation
• Procedures for proper documentation
