Job Description
Helping to ensure the safety of National Guard personnel that may have to depend on survival equipment is the National Guard parachute rigger. This specialist is primarily responsible for repairing textile and canvas items, webbed equipment and clothing. Duties include:
• Inspecting and packing parachutes
• Sewing, patching, darning and basting worn or damaged fabrics
• Fabricating and repairing canvas covers, tarpaulins and other items

Training
To become a National Guard parachute rigger, you must nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 10 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
• Parachute rigging techniques
• Repair of inflatable rafts and other survival equipment
• Maintenance of oxygen and rescue equipment
