| Job Description |
The National Guard laundry and textile specialist plays an important role in the health and well-being of personnel. This specialist is primarily responsible for supervising and performing laundry, shower, personnel, and clothing decontamination functions. Duties include:
• Reviewing and verifying laundry lists
• Receiving bulk, individual or organizational laundry
• Separating, classifying and marking washable and unwashable items
• Operating mobile washers, extractors, dryers, reimpregnation, decontamination, and delousing equipment
• Sorting and issuing cleaned laundry and equipment
• Conducting clothing exchange in conjunction with bag operations
• Installing, inspecting, operating and maintaining laundry, shower, decontamination and delousing equipment and generators
Training
To become a National Guard laundry and textile specialist, you must nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and six weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers the principles and techniques in laundry and textile work.
