Job Description
SRI is interested in hiring talented individuals to fill positions in software and hardware technical support for an on ongoing government program. The positions are located at COB Speicher, Iraq. The individuals will take training at SRI, Menlo Park and then a 3 day training program at the US Army Corps of Engineer's UDC Deployment Training Center, Winchester, VA. General responsibilities include the potential for extended Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside CONUS deployments. The anticipated overseas tour is a minimum of 90 days and a maximum of 365 days. Scheduled (return to CONUS) breaks are planned every 90-days. Premium pay and insurance associated with overseas assignments apply. The position is dependent on continued US Government funding and is considered a temporary position. Full time follow on employment at SRI is possible, but is not guaranteed.

The successful candidate must be a quick learner, able to work well in a team environment and under pressure. The candidate will be working with ground based and airborne systems that consists of over 20 servers, split into approximately 4 networks. The candidate will be the primary IT and system administration support for a group of over 20 personnel.

The characteristics of the ideal candidate include:

Ability to understand hardware system documentation such as network diagrams, configuration diagrams, etc.

Very strong linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora Core) system administration skills; very strong networking skills including the ability to design and implement a small LAN, and the ability to troubleshoot network hardware and software issues; the ability to assemble computers from scratch, and install and troubleshoot operating systems; the ability to implement appropriate data storage solutions; strong Windows skills (to help with personal-use laptops in the field); the ability to install and troubleshoot custom built applications; familiarity with Solaris.

Example tasks might include:
Build & install new software releases; back up and manage system & data drives; support design and implementation of data archiving and recovery plans; support implementation and maintenance of terabyte data storage solutions; diagnose and fix networking issues; install and configure large managed switches; generate scripts to automate data transfers;

Requirements

Education:
BS degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or a related area, or equivalent.

Experience:
Leading candidates will have 2.5+ years experience in design and implementation of information technology (IT) tools and systems. Successful applicants should have extensive experience in Linux system administration (Red Hat EL, Fedora Core), network design and implementation, network debugging, computer setup and configuration, scripting methods, storage systems, software installers, version control tools and system deployment methods. Previous military experience overseas is desirable.

At a minimum, operating system experience should include Linux and Windows. Applicants should have familiarity with Java, UML, XML, ANT and SQL, and be able to document IT infrastructures and processes clearly. Experience with software development is a plus. Familiarity with Solaris system administration is also a plus.

Other:
Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
